"The Deadliness of Certainty" by Kathleen Parker - Post from Coyote Prime

"The Deadliness of Certainty"
by Kathleen Parker
"Freud recognized that human beings have a sex drive and even a death drive. Is it possible that we also have an aphorism drive? We do seem attracted to pat answers and pithy summation- especially from our politicians. It isn't enough to be wise or effective; one must be quotable. In fact, aphorism is the oldest written art form, according to aphorism expert and author James Geary ("The World in a Phrase: A Brief History of the Aphorism"). Before famed aphorists Mark Twain, Dorothy Parker and Woody Allen put the party in repartee, Buddha, Jesus and Muhammad were creating buzz. Five thousand years ago, the Egyptians and Chinese were chiseling out sturdy statements of universal truth.
Les bons mots tend to make us feel better, lending form to our thoughts and order to our emotions. They're especially useful in times of duress. Eulogies and editorials invariably feature those three little words: "As [fill in the blank] said." Here comes one now: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Ahhh. Feeling better already. Thus was born the Hallelujah Chorus. Then again, more often these days, a politician's happy turn of phrase makes me feel worse. I don't know whether to clap my hands or clutch my wallet. Why does the very thing intended to make one feel uplifted and inspired make me feel manipulated and skeptical?
Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert, writing in the New York Times, inadvertently may have offered a clue. He was explaining that people are happiest when they are certain. We don't like not knowing, apparently, even when what we know is awful. Gilbert cited various experiments to make his point, including one involving the certifiably awful colostomy. People who knew their colostomies would be permanent were happier than people whose colostomies might someday be reversed. Gilbert's conclusion: People would rather know than not know. Knowing, they can make psychological adjustments. "We find our bootstraps and tug," he wrote. "But we can't come to terms with circumstances whose terms we don't yet know."
Gilbert's observations were in the context of our current economic woes. As soon as we know how bad things are (or aren't), he said, we'll adapt and get along just fine. He may be right as far as it goes, but the same uncertainty that makes human beings unhappy also stimulates the creativity that makes us happy. Was Leonardo da Vinci happy? Homer? George Washington? Man's drive to create isn't born of contentment but of anxiety attached to the unconscious agitation that comes from the greatest certainty ever devised: Death. Here is a truism, if not an aphorism. Without death and the certainty of physical finitude, Homo sapiens would never have left the cave. Unhappiness and uncertainty- rather than happiness and certitude- are what get us off our duffs. No misery. No Sistine Chapel.
So what happens to the creative spirit when government steps in to soothe our anxieties? Without unhappiness, what happens to culture? Without adversity, what happens to motivation? Parents know. Suffice to say, the work ethic is not strong among the coddled. Most important, with all needs met, what happens to freedom- that human recoil against imposed order?
When Rahm Emanuel said, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste," he wasn't the first or the last to express the sentiment. George W. Bush was accused of taking advantage of Americans' post-Sept. 11 terror to expand executive power. Barack Obama will be remembered for creating budget-busting social programs while Americans were caught in the headlights of unemployment and economic reversal. The citizen's fear is the politician's elixir. Certainty may be the promise of government, but uncertainty is the grease of free markets. Uncertainty was also America's midwife. Without a tolerance for uncertainty- and unhappiness- our nation's Founders might have remained in their rockers.
Previous generations understood that life is a gamble of uncertain returns. They were sometimes sad because life is sometimes sad. They were good at coping in bad times because downturns were more familiar than upticks. Today, we apparently trade liberty for certainty and our once-swashbuckling spirit for contentment, preferably in pill form. All we need is a nice aphorism to help the medicine go down. Here's one beloved by conservatives to get things rolling: "A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have." Happy now?"

You or I Could (and will) Be The Next Target. Count on it!

How deceived we are.  Our constitution is in critical danger.  The video below sheds tremendous dialogue with the women of the Bundy family.  Frankly, (after reading listening to the media reports over a period of weeks of the Bundy standoff) I've become more disbelieving of what we as a society is willing to accept regarding  our lives.

Caravan To Midnight – Episode 500 First Time Ever: The Bundy Women Speak Out.

The 35min. mark confirms what I've always felt.

The video is so revealing that I hope you will pass it on so others can listen to the truth coming from these mothers and wives.  They are in dire straits trying to cope (my opinion).

We the People either wake up to reality or become more crushed and tied down.   To remain silent is to agree with what is going on or true fear of what is happening day in and day out; or just couldn't give a toot about anything but our own self-comfort.  We must overcome our harsh authority!

The Bundy situation is just ONE of the issues of what's wrong in America. There are bushel-basketsful.  Of course there is much good happening among outselves; But we are overwhelmed with government edicts.  Also, their rules of "You do as I say, not as I do" is a touch of itchy/scratchy along the edges, isn't it?.

The Economy: “Something Wicked This Way Comes”

“After Emergency Federal Reserve Meeting Today, Obama and Biden
to Meet with Yellen. Rumor: Martial Law Discussions for Banking Failure”
by U.S. Reporter
Apr 11, 2016, Last modified 13:40 - “Rumors swirling say "Martial Law discussions over a banking system failure" are the reasons President Obama and Vice President Biden are to meet with Fed. Chair Janet Yellen today after the Federal Reserve's Emergency Meeting this morning. In the history of the United States, it has never before taken place that both the President AND Vice President meet "unexpectedly" with the Federal Reserve. Speculation is already flowing all over Washington, DC that it may have something to do with "the survival of the government." Members of the House and Senate are said to have been "up all night" in discussions and meetings; with floods of phone calls back and forth.
More: Tuesday and Wednesday the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meet in DC and on Thursday the IMF and World Bank meet in DC as well. All the leading bankers in the world will be in DC this week.
Something wicked this way comes and it is coming very, very soon; within days we suspect.
Next Tuesday: The Chinese are scheduled to announce their switch from dollar to yuan on Tuesday, April 19th; which will send about two TRILLION in cash back to the US and send inflation skyrocketing overnight.
If you are not prepared, you have run out of time. You need to have emergency cash to live on in case banks close for a couple weeks and shut down credit, debit cards and ATM's; not cash to pay your bills, but rather cash to SURVIVE with for food, fuel, medicine. Stores may have to close, so you'd better have food,  the shelf-stable type that doesn't go bad: 50lb Bag(s) of rice, Boxes of various Pasta, canned meats, jarred sauces. Butter, sugar, salt etc. Enough to survive for awhile just in case.
While today's Expedited meeting of the federal reserve was called last Thursday, over the weekend astonishing banking developments took place in Europe. Austria became the first European nation to utilize the new "Bail-in" regulations, seizing 54% of Senior Bondholders stock value to pay the bad debts of Hypo Alpe Adria bank/the Heta Asset Resolution AG. While senior bond holders were considered "preferred" creditors and got 46% of their investment covered, Depositors were considered "subordinated" creditors and got: NOTHING!  Citizens were left broke. Story Here.
Five hours later, the Finance Minister of Italy called an Emergency Meeting of Italian Bankers in Rome to engage what he called a "last resort" to deal with$360 Billion in bad loans against banks with only $50 Billion in Capital. That story is Here.
It appears an actual worldwide banking crisis is lIterally within view on the horizon and this week seems to be when all of it may come to a head. Perhaps that's why the Finance Ministers of the G-20 nations will meet in Washington Tuesday and Wednesday, and then on Thursday, the World Bank and IMF will meet in Washington. With every major banker in the world meeting in Washington this week, something is surely "up," and many people are starting to think the general public is about to get "hosed."

Now I Get It

I'm reading Seymour Hersh's "The Dark Side of Camelot", an account of the days of John Kennedy's life and his rise to become our president in 1960.

It certainly isn't a pleasant picture that tells of how political candidates fight to gain what they want.  None of their tricks is 'too dirty'.  I've heard, know a bit about, and read about the 'antics' of the drum-beaters.  But their antics go far deeper than one can imagine.  Truly!

We as John Q Publics, we ordinary citizens, realize practice makes perfect, so my feeling is that in the future it will still be as secretive and stinking rotten as it was then and way farther back before the Kennedy games, most likely from the very first political game with George Washington.

This book is lengthy, was well researched and is rich with footnotes.  I find that Seymour Hersh is the author of many books that expose all the hidden information that we rarely learn about.  I will continue reading some of his books.  He is a fine writer.  It is fairly shocking to me to have reached the age of 75 and not to have known of the seriously dirty deeds that
are done.  I don't think we as a nation ever have the right to preach morality or compassion, truthfulness to another, especially when being represented by such scandalous standards.

I apply what I've learned from this book to the fiasco today, this (18 months) campaign and fully distrust what I hear the candidates saying and doing.

Read this if you want more truth!  The media - completely controlled ...or else!

Does Lying Save Necks?

There is nothing more dangerous in this world than telling the truth,”.  A quote from one who is well aware of the chaos/death and destruction that worsens day by day.

Is this why so many liars exist?

Planet Earth - an illusion, for certain.

Mouse Control

Artist Unknown

I like the ability. The artist certainly knows how to control his tools in Paint program.

Everything is easy once one learns control of tools.  Be it a canvas, hammer & nails, pick & shovel, your brain, whatever; learn how to use your tools. I love to learn. That's what life is about - learning.

I Say

"Suck it up, girl".  Megyn Kelly, you have many years left and will experience more if you continue on the same path.  I've  seen hostility in your eyes!  It would be so nice if you and FOX news would
consider downgrading the sexy adornment too.
Megyn Kelly HD Wallpapers | HD Wallpapers 360

Call me a snob or whatevert - I get so tired of seeing women on the public scene exposing more and more of their 'charms'every day.  This appeals to the MEN - mostly! What is the main purpose of this on Fox News?  My guess is , in the long run, more profit for FOX!  Sex sells!

It seems the world follows the Hollywood culture more than they realize.  Glitz and glamour is the mode for dress today.  Demoralizing. Not just for the sexy model but for those who ogle and salivate.  Mankind surely is moving down a very negative path.

https://www.yahoo.com/?r640=1268895273 for her latest whine. Megyn is dressed properly for public view in this instance and her audience.

Now Amy Goodman can give the news - straight on news.  Ms Goodman is a serious person. http://www.democracynow.org/
